2010/10/10Nordyke Marmon Company Considered one of the finest engineering houses of its time, Nordyke and Marmon Company became known as America's top mill builder. Furnishing complete machinery equipment for flour mills, corn mills, cereal mills, starch and rice mills and elevators, its founders and their descendants continued designing and making quality products for almost 130 years.

In fact, Nordyke and Marmon was located only one block to the west of the Robbins Body plant which was located on Morris St (now West Morris St) at the corner of Division St. (1148 Division St.) The firm's predecessor, Irvin Robbins Company (1885-1919), was a carriage maker who specialized in high-grade carriages and hearses.

At that time Daniel W. Marmon entered the firm, which then became Nordyke Marmon Company. By 1871, it had become one of the most prominent concerns in its field and occupied substantial brick factory buildings constituting what was then considered quite a large plant.
